LOS ANGELES, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- With the Chinese Lunar New Year approaching, "Happy Spring Festival" came to Los Angeles, United States, on Thursday to bring to local people the "Walking New Year's Eve dinner" and best wishes for the year 2018.

"This is the first time the famous brand 'Walking' (is brought) to Los Angeles. It's a very good opportunity for people here to feel the unique charm of the Chinese food culture," said Zhuang Zhizhe, Chinese deputy consul general in Los Angeles.

"The Walking New Year's Eve Dinner" was presented in Li'Orient by the World Federation of China Catering Industry (WFCCI), which invited "Quan Ju De" and "Dong Lai Shun," two famous Chinese catering companies which jointly organized the dinner together.

During the event, the sophisticated "knife work" of a senior chef from Quan Ju De wowed the audience. With special cutting skills, the chef pulled the cucumber longer and made it look like ancient Chinese raincoats.

In ancient China, Suo Yi means raincoat made by plants. There is a popular cuisine, called Suo Yi cucumber, in China's Shandong Province and in Beijing.

"There is a huge opportunity for Los Angeles to be able to try all the delicious Chinese food," Mary Saunders, vice president of Business Development of Beverly Hills Conference and Visitors Bureau told Xinhua. Enditem
