1 dead as massive fire breaks out at garments factory in Delhi

NEW DELHI, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- A major fire broke out at a garment factory in the Indian capital Delhi Saturday, killing one person, officials said.

"The fire erupted at a jeans factory on Tank Road in central Delhi this morning. Five fire tenders have been pressed into service to douse the flames," a fire official said.

"A 35-year-old man has died in the fire. However, some others inside the factory have been evacuated from the factory by firefighters," he added.

A probe has been ordered into the incident, the official said.

The incident came after 17 people were killed in a massive fire at a fireworks factory in the national capital last month.

Fires are not unusual in residential areas and factories in India, mainly because of lack of regards for safety norms and fire-fighting equipment like hosepipes and alarm systems. Enditem
