HOUSTON, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. rig count jumped 29 this week, with West Texas' Permian Basin added 10 drilling rigs, according to weekly data collected by Baker Hughes released on Friday.

Houston oilfield services company Baker Hughes reported that of the 29 new rigs, 26 were oil rigs and three were gas ones. The overall rig count for the United States increased to 975 in total.

The company said that Texas added 14 rigs, the most of any state. Outside of the Permian, three rigs were added in the Eagle Ford area. The national total is up 234 rigs from 741 counted on Feb. 10, 2017.

In the meantime, oil prices have fallen this week, dipping below 60 U.S. dollars a barrel on Friday during intraday trading. Enditem
