Chinese president's envoy meets Chinese delegation ahead of PyeongChang Olympics

PYEONGCHANG, South Korea, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping's special envoy Han Zheng visited "China House" in Gangneung and met members of the Chinese delegation ahead of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics opening ceremony on Friday.

Han, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, encouraged Chinese athletes to put on good performances during the Games.

Han quoted President Xi as saying that one of the major tasks in China's national development is to build itself into a world sport power.

He added that the 2022 Beijing Winter Games is set to give the Chinese people another opportunity to contribute to the Olympic Movement and the spread of the Olympic spirit.

Following his visit to the Chinese hospitality house, Han watched a curling game in the Gangneung Curling Center.

At the invitation of South Korean President Moon Jae-in and International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach, Han attended the opening ceremony of the PyeongChang Games. Enditem
