BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 4.05 percent, at 3,129.85 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 3.58 percent lower at 10,001.23 points. The ChiNext Index, which tracks China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 2.98 percent to close at 1,592.51 points.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Friday moved down 0.21 points, or 0.01 percent to close at 1,786.45 points.

Some 11.58 billion shares worth 67.68 billion baht (about 2.13 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore shares closed 1.13 percent lower on Friday, dragged by sharp fall in Wall Street overnight.

U.S. stocks tumbled on Thursday into correction territory on rising inflation expectations and a slide in crude prices towards 60 U.S. dollars per barrel, which would wipe out this year's gains.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed lower on Friday as global indexes were under pressure on worries over interest rate hikes.

The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex closed at 34,005.76, 407.40 points or 1.18 percent down compared to its previous close at 34,413.16.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended lower here on Friday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,819.82, down 19.62 points or 1.07 percent, and the Emas was at 12,975.06, down 130.47 points or 1.00 percent.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 1,003.94 points on Friday, down 19.31 points, or 1.89 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.

About 243.233 million shares worth 6.434 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (286.78 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange. Prices of 105 stocks went up, 174 stocks fell down, while 49 stocks remained unchanged.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 117.5 points on Friday, up 0.56 points or 0.48 percent against the previous trading session.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed sharply lower Friday as Wall Street's tumble overnight triggered another sell-off here on concerns of ongoing market volatility as the 10-year U.S. Treasury yield spiked.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 508.24 points, or 2.32 percent, from Thursday to close the day at 21,382.62, marking its lowest closing level since Oct. 18.
