Security member killed, 9 wounded in suicide attack in western Iraq

BAGHDAD, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- A paramilitary tribal fighter was killed and nine others wounded Thursday in a suicide bomb attack in the city of Ramadi, the capital of Anbar province, a provincial police source said.

The attack took place in the evening when a suicide bomber rammed his booby-trapped motorcycle into a checkpoint manned by the local tribal fighters, Captain Saad al-Kubaisy told Xinhua.

Iraqi security forces sealed off the scene and imposed traffic ban in the city to avoid further possible attacks, Kubaisy said.

The attack came despite the Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi on Dec. 9, officially declared full liberation of Iraq from IS militants after Iraqi forces recaptured all the areas once seized by the extremist group.

However, small groups and individuals of IS militants are still capable of carrying out attacks against civilians and the security forces despite operations from time to time to hunt them down. Enditem
