BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed mixed on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 1.43 percent, at 3,262.05 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.23 percent higher at 10,372.59 points.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Thursday as a return in risk appetite following a global equities rout earlier in the week saw investors seek out bargains with sentiment bolstered by the yen's retreat against the U.S. dollar.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 245.49 points, or 1.13 percent, from Wednesday to close the day at 21,890.86.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 15.78 points, or 0.90 percent, to finish at 1,765.69.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 128.07 points, or 0.42 percent, to 30,451.27 points on Thursday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 30,251.32 and 30,739.11. Turnover totaled 149.10 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 19.07 billion U.S. dollars).

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed higher Thursday, rallying over 300 points on continued buying by domestic funds and recovery in the rupee amid higher Asian markets.

The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex closed at 34,413.16, 330.45 points or 0.97 percent up compared to its previous close at 34,082.71.

JAKARTA -- Indonesia shares closed higher by 9.76 points, or 0.15 percent, to a level of 6,544.63 on Thursday.

Some 332,588 transactions were booked, involving 12.9 billion copies of shares with a value of 7.2 trillion rupiah (about 528.7 million U.S. dollars).

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Thursday moved up 1.22 points, or 0.07 percent to close at 1,786.66 points.

Some 9.39 billion shares worth 55.94 billion baht (about 1.77 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Thursday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,839.44 up 2.76 points or 0.15 percent, and the Emas was at 13,105.53 up 21.73 points or 0. 17 percent.

Turnover decrease to 2.05 billion shares valued at 2.08 billion ringgit Malaysia (531.97 million U.S. dollars), compared with 3.32 billion shares valued at 3.51 billion ringgit Malaysia (897.70 million U.S. dollars) on Wednesday.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed up on Thursday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) rebounded 0.95 percent or 32.13 points to close at 3415.9.

A total of 2.02 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 2.13 billion Singapore dollars (about 1.61 billion U.S. dollars).

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 116.94 points on Thursday, down 2.68 points or 2.24 percent against the previous trading session.

Over 46.475 million shares worth some 626.982 billion Vietnamese dong (some 27.9 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Thursday, a decrease of 23.5 percent in volume and 35.4 percent in value against the previous trading session.

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market closed on Thursday up 0.40 percent compared to the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index increased by 3.89 points to reach 970.06 points after closing.

A total of 2,500 shares worth about 13 million Lao kip (nearly 1,610 U.S. dollars) changed hands at the stock market.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 1,023.25 points on Thursday, down 17.3 points, or 1.66 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.

About 181.500 million shares worth 4.808 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (214.34 million U.S. dollars) c changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange.

VN30-Index, the new benchmark index for the southern bourse, which tracks the 30 leading stocks by both market capitalization and liquidity, closed at 1,013.56 points, down 17.35 points or 1.68 percent.

A total of 50.850 million shares worth 3.623 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND)(116.94 million U.S. dollars) were traded on Thursday.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.26 percent lower on Thursday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index decreased by 22.48 points to 8,645.08. The all-share index went up by 8.59 points, or 0.17 percent, to 5,094.67.

Trading volume reached 1.03 billion shares worth 7.11 billion pesos (138.80 million U.S. dollars).

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended higher Thursday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) gained 11.06 points, or 0.46 percent, to settle at 2,407.62. Trading volume stood at 357.64 million shares worth 7.12 trillion won (6.54 billion U.S. dollars).

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market ended higher on Thursday, with the turnaround from the week's lows reflecting some remaining caution by investors.

At the close, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 stock index was up 13.9 points or 0.24 percent at 5,890.7, while the broader All Ordinaries index gained 13.7 points or 0.23 percent at 5,995.2.
