Former Jiangsu vice governor stands trial for bribery

JINAN, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- Li Yunfeng, former vice governor of Jiangsu Province, stood trial on charge of accepting bribes in a court in Shandong Province on Thursday.

Prosecutors accused Li of taking advantage of his positions to seek benefits for others in obtaining contracts and promotions, and accepting money and gifts worth more than 14.8 million yuan (about 2.4 million U.S. dollars) between 2003 and 2014.

The case was tried at the Intermediate People's Court of Heze City in Shandong.

Li made a statement to the court in which he pled guilty and expressed remorse.

More than 60 people, including legislators, political advisors, journalists and members of the public, were present at the trial.
