1st LD: Azerbaijan's president to contest in April election

BAKU, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev was Thursday nominated as the ruling New Azerbaijan Party's presidential candidate for a snap election this year, the party said.

Aliyev, the party's chairman, was officially nominated at the sixth party congress in Baku.

On Monday, the president had signed a decree, bringing the presidential election forward to April 11 from Oct. 17. Enditem
