Turkish FM visits Iran over regional issues

Xinhua,February 07, 2018 Adjust font size:

TEHRAN, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu will visit Iran on Wednesday for talks on bilateral and regional issues, Iran Daily reported.

During his one-day stay in the capital Tehran, Cavusoglu is scheduled to meet Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his counterpart Mohammad-Javad Zarif.

The visit by Cavusoglu comes as Turkey is engaged in major military campaigns in the northwestern Syrian city of Afrin against U.S.-backed Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG).

Ankara views the YPG as the Syrian branch of the outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK).

Iran has been critical of the Turkish military operation in Syria, calling on Ankara to respect the territorial integrity of Syria and avoid the escalation of crisis in the Middle Eastern country. Enditem
