Chinese athlete wins High Jump Meeting in Slovakia

BRATISLAVA, Slovakia, Feb.7 (Xinhua) -- Chinese athlete Wang Yu won the 24th High Jump Meeting in Banska Bystrica in the Central Slovakia on Tuesday evening.

He cleared 2.31 meters and beat the reigning world champion Mutaz Essa Barshim of Qatar. Barshim was defeated for the first time since 2016 after 12 victories, including twice in Banska Bystrica.

26-years-old Wang Yu was satisfied with the result and his performance.

"It's amazing, when you triumph in this kind of event and especially, when you beat Barshim as well," said Wang Yu. On the other hand Barshim wasn't satisfied with his result.

"I'm not happy, but I will fix it next year," Barshim said.

Donald Thomas form Bahamas took the third place in High Jump Meeting Banska Bystrica. The women competition was dominated by Russian Marija Lasickene with 2.02 meters. The second place was taken by Levern Spencer from Saint Lucia and the third place was shared by Italian Alessia Trost and Michaela Hruba from the Czech Republic. Enditem
