Slovakia unlikely to support new asylum system: official

BRATISLAVA, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- Slovakia is very unlikely to support the new asylum system, if it includes a commitment to receive migrants, Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Ministry State Secretary Ivan Korcok said after meeting here with Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto on Tuesday.

According to Korcok, the system of mandatory quotas, approved by the Council of the EU by a qualified majority in 2015, isn't working in practice and the EU has been facing deep political damage and disputes over it.

Korcok said that it's now important to find a compromise among the member states.

Szijjarto, on his part, said the Visegrad Four countries, namely the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia, have a united opinion in this regard. Enditem
