DHAKA -- Police in Bangladesh capital Dhaka on Tuesday issued an order banning all sorts of public assemblies in the capital city on Thursday when a verdict over former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia's graft case will be delivered.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) also imposed ban on carrying sharp weapons, explosives, flammable materials and sticks in the city. (Bangladesh-Ex-PM-Verdict)

TOKYO -- U.S. Vice President Mike Pence arrived in Japan on Tuesday to hold talks with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Deputy Prime Minister Taro Aso.

MALE -- Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen on Tuesday said he had declared a 15-day state of emergency because the Supreme Court chief justice had planned to overthrow the government.
Yameen, in an address to his nation which was televised across the island country, said the recent Supreme Court order to release top opposition leaders was "shocking" and this had threatened to "cripple" the functioning of the state. (Maldives-Crisis)

SINGAPORE -- ASEAN (the Association of Southeast Asian Nations) foreign ministers have agreed on the need for its member states to make use of innovation and technology to improve the lives of their peoples.
In a statement released Tuesday at the end of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Retreat, Singaporean foreign minister Vivian Balakrishnan said the foreign ministers expressed support for Singapore's proposal to create an ASEAN Smart Cities Network in this regard. (ASEAN-Foreign Ministers)

MANILA -- The Supreme Court (SC) in the Philippines upheld on Tuesday the constitutionality of placing the southern Philippine island of Mindanao under martial rule until the end of 2018.
