TEHRAN, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Defense Ministry unveiled an indigenous propulsion system for speedboats on Tuesday, Tasnim news agency reported.
The maritime propulsion system, which consists of a mobile shaft for transmission of power as high as 1,800 horsepower, allows military speedboats to reach higher velocities, said Deputy Defense Minister Brig. Gen. Qasem Taqizadeh.
It is equipped with automatic running systems and can help lower fuel consumption and increase maneuverability in shallow waters, he added.
The Defense Ministry also unveiled a cathodic protection system used to protect metal against corrosion in military and civilian vessels.
Iran is ready to export the homegrown cathodic protection system, Taqizadeh told reporters at a ceremony held to introduce the country's achievements. Enditem
