BEIRUT -- One Lebanese army soldier was killed and five others including an officer injured during a raid the army launched late Sunday to arrest suspects in the northern port city of Tripoli, according to medical and security sources.

BAGHDAD -- Iraqi security forces Monday killed six Islamic State (IS) militants in an operation at the town of Hawijah in Iraq's northern province of Kirkuk, a local police source said.
The incident took place in the morning when a federal police forces carried out a search operation to clear the central part of Hawijah, some 230 km north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, from possible remnants of IS militants, Captain Ahmed al-Jubouri told Xinhua. (Iraq-IS)

DAMASCUS -- As many as 500 people have been killed and wounded during the two-week-long Turkish military campaign against the Kurdish-held Afrin region in northern Syria, state news agency SANA reported on Monday.
The casualties have been taken to the Afrin hospital, said SANA, adding that 142 civilians were killed and 345 others wounded by the Turkish military offensive on Afrin in the northern countryside of Aleppo near the Turkish border. (Syria-Turkey-Afrin)

GAZA -- An Israeli man was killed in a stabbing attack near Jewish settlement of Ariel in the north of the West Bank on Monday, Israeli sources said.
