Egyptian army kills terrorist in North Sinai

CAIRO, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian army killed one dangerous terrorist and arrested six other suspects during a military raid in restive North Sinai province, military spokesman said on Monday.

In a statement, military spokesman Tamer al-Refaay said two warehouses had been discovered containing explosive devices, two 4x4 vehicles and six motorcycles used by terrorists.

The troops also destroyed locations used by the terrorists as hideouts and for storing ammunition, communications equipment and substances used to manufacture explosive, he added.

North Sinai used to be the center of Egypt's terrorist attacks that killed hundreds of policemen and soldiers following the military's removal of former Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in July 2013.

The attacks later extended to several other provinces including the capital Cairo, and started to target the Coptic minority via church bombings and shootings.

Most of the terror attacks were carried out by the so-called Wilayat Sinai (Sinai state or province), a Sinai-based group affiliated with the Islamic State (IS), a regional terrorist group.

In return, Egyptian security forces have so far killed hundreds of terrorists and arrested thousands of suspects during the country's anti-terror war. Enditem
