BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed mixed on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.73 percent, at 3,487.5 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.81 percent lower at 10,836.25 points.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed sharply lower Monday, with the benchmark Nikkei stock index logging its biggest decline in 15 months as a sell-off late last week on Wall Street on inflation concerns triggered a risk averse mood here.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 592.45 points, or 2.55 percent, from Friday to close the day at 22,682.08.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 40.46 points, or 2.17 percent, to finish at 1,823.74.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed down 356.560 points, or 1.09 percent, to 32,245.219 points on Monday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 31,712.02 and 32,394.871. Turnover totaled 169.90 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 21.73 billion U.S. dollars).

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed lower Monday as investor caution continued after fear that the RBI may raise interest rates this week to rein in inflation concerns.

The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex closed at 34,757.16, 309.59 points or 0.88 percent down compared to its previous close at 35,066.75.

JAKARTA -- Indonesia shares closed lower by 39.14 points, or 0.59 percent, to a level of 6,589.67 on Monday.

Some 347,783 transactions were booked, involving 12.2 billion copies of shares with a value of 6.9 trillion rupiah (about 511 million U.S. dollars).

DHAKA -- Bangladesh's DSE (Dhaka Stock Exchange) Broad Index closed Sunday at 5,869 points, down 18.51 points from Thursday's finish.

Total turnover increased to about 4.40 billion taka (about 52.43 million U.S. dollars) on Monday from about 3.65 billion taka (about 43.96 million U.S. dollars) on Sunday.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended lower here on Monday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,853.07, down 17.41 points or 0.93 percent, and the Emas was at 13,220.69, down 155.89 points or 1.17 percent.

Turnover increase to 2.66 billion shares valued at 2.85billion ringgit Malaysia (734.54 million U.S. dollars), compared with 2.61 billion shares valued at 3.25 billion ringgit Malaysia (835.47 million U.S. dollars) on Friday.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed down on Monday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) went down 1.33 percent or 46.89 points to close at 3482.93.

A total of 2.83 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.78 billion Singapore dollars (about 1.35 billion U.S. dollars).

The STI index closed down 0.49 percent or 17.41 points to close at 3529.82 last Friday.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 2.21 percent lower on Monday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index decreased by 194.75 points to 8,616.00. The all-share index went down by 111.40 points, or 2.15 percent, to 5,070.42.

Trading volume reached 1.17 billion shares worth 8.50 billion pesos (164.66 million U.S. dollars).

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in southern Vietnam, closed at 1,048.71 points on Monday, down 56.36 points, or 5.1 percent, against the last Friday's closing session.

About 282.041 million shares worth 8.302 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (369.93 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange.

VN30-Index, the new benchmark index for the southern bourse, which tracks the 30 leading stocks by both market capitalization and liquidity, closed at 1,035.02 points, down 55.38 points or 5.08 percent.

A total of 98.880 million shares worth 4.395 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND)(195.84 million U.S. dollars) were traded on Monday.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 118.94 points on Monday, down 5.03 points or 4.06 percent against the previous trading session.

Over 76.908 million shares worth some 1.198 trillion Vietnamese dong (some 53.4 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Monday, an increase of 42.1 percent in volume and 44.5 percent in value against the previous trading session.

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market closed on Monday up 0.29 percent compared to the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index increased by 2.73 points to reach 950.60 points after closing.

A total of 129,300 shares worth about 738 million Lao kip (nearly 89,364 U.S. dollars) changed hands at the stock market.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended lower Monday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) declined 33.64 points, or 1.33 percent, to settle at 2,491.75. Trading volume stood at 438.17 million shares worth 7.85 trillion won (7.2 billion U.S. dollars).

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market has finished sharply lower on Monday, suffering the worst single day losses since June 30, 2017.

At the close of trade, the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index was down 95.20 points, or 1.56 percent, at 6,026.20, while the broader All Ordinaries index dropped 101.40 points, or 1.63 percent, at 6,128.40.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished higher on Monday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange Index up 2.74 points, or 0.82 percent, to close at 335.02.
