Azerbaijan to hold snap presidential election in April

BAKU, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Monday signed a decree to bring forward this year's presidential election to April 11 from Oct. 17, according to official Azerbaijan News Agency.

Under the decree, the Central Election Commission was instructed to set an election date in accordance with the procedure established by the Election Code of the country.

According to Article 179.2 of the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan, presidential polls should be set on a Wednesday within 60 days after the announcement of the snap presidential election. Enditem
