Landslide kills 2 in East Java of western Indonesia

JAKARTA, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- Two people were killed and another was seriously injured as landslide stuck East Java province of Western Indonesia, a government official said on Monday.

The natural disaster took place in Bayu village of Banyuwangi district of the province, spokesman of national disaster management agency Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said.

"The landslide hit a house, killing two persons and badly injuring another person," he told Xinhua.

Heavy downpours were blamed for the incident, according to the spokesman.

Indonesia has frequently stricken by landslides and floods during heavy rains. Enditem
