-- Two private and long emotional meetings with pleadings, empty promises and a flurry of received and ignored calls captured the palpating tension 24 hours before the swearing-in of opposition leader Raila Odinga as the "People's President".

Divergent opinions characterized the opposition's coalition National Super Alliance (NASA) as Odinga and his three co-principals differed on oath-taking, making the latter to skip the function. Odinga took the oath alone, with the act of his colleagues being seen as betrayal among supporters. (Standard on Saturday)

-- The United Nations has added its voice to international calls for the Kenyan government to respect a court order to switch on three TV stations which were shut down over opposition swearing-in fiasco. US government and the European Union are other actors who have condemned the decision. (Saturday Nation)
