LOS ANGELES -- Five people were injured, including two students shot, in a classroom shooting Thursday at the Salvador Castro Middle School in the western U.S. city of Los Angeles, local authorities said.

A 15-year-old boy who was shot in the head was in critical condition and a 15-year-old girl who was shot in the wrist was in stable condition, according to Los Angeles Police Department. (US-School Shooting)

BAGHDAD -- Violence across Iraq has killed 111 civilians in January, the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) said Thursday.

More than 250 others were wounded in the terror attacks and armed conflicts in Iraq in the past month, the UNAMI said in a statement.

ANKARA -- Three people were slightly injured in an explosion of a boiler in the building of the Tax Directorate in Ankara Thursday night, authorities said.

The gas explosion occurred in the boiler room at the basement of the building in the Cukurambar district of the Turkish capital.

KHARTOUM -- At least 17 people have been killed after a gold mine collapsed in northeastern Sudan, Sudan Tribune reported Thursday.

Two others were injured in the accident in the mine, that is located on the Atbara-Haya road, some 580 km northeast of the Sudanese capital Khartoum, the report said. (Sudan-Gold Mine-Accident) Enditem
