BEIRUT, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Lebanese Army on Thursday raised the alert on Lebanese-Israeli border due to excavation works carried out by Israeli army on parts of lands that are still under dispute between the two countries.

The excavation works were carried out with heavy Israeli equipment in the Ras al-Naqoura area on Thursday under the protection of tanks and armored vehicles, a Lebanese security source said.

He added that the "Lebanese army is observing carefully the Israeli works and it informed the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) of Lebanon's objection on the works it considers a clear violation of the sovereignty of its lands."

The source stressed that "the Lebanese army called for the cessation of all the Israeli works and that the issue would be discussed in the regular tripartite meeting that would be held next week." Enditem
