RABAT, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Moroccan security services have dismantled a terror cell made up of seven suspects over supporting the Islamic State (IS) group, the Interior Ministry announced in a statement Thursday.

According to the ministry's statement, the cell was operating in the northern cities of Tangier and Meknes.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the cell was supporting and disseminating the propaganda of IS, the statement pointed out.

The suspects were plotting to attack civilians and properties, as well as to join a branch of the IS, the statement said.

The security services seized various electronic devices and weapons, in addition to books and manuscripts promoting extremist ideology, said the same source.

According to authorities, Moroccan security services have busted around 50 terrorist cells, over 40 of which were linked to the IS, since 2015. Enditem
