BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed lower Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.97 percent to close at 3,446.98 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 2.65 percent lower at 10,864.34 points.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Thursday, bringing an end to the benchmark Nikkei stock index's six-day losing streak as bargain-hunting buoyed the market and the yen's retreat against the U.S. dollar added support.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 387.82 points, or 1.68 percent, from Wednesday to close the day at 23,486.11.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed down 245.18 points, or 0.75 percent, to 32,642.09 points on Thursday.
The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 32,642.09 and 33,048.04. Turnover totaled 154.5 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 19.76 billion U.S. dollars).

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed flat on a negative bias on Thursday after Finance Minister Arun jaitley announced union budget.
The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex closed at 35,906.66, 58.36 points or 0.16 percent down compared to its previous close at 35,965.02.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index on Thursday moved up 6.74 points, or 0.37 percent to close at 1,833.60 points.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed up on Thursday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) went up 0.37 percent or 13.24 points to close at 3547.23.
