MOSCOW, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) Thursday said it had killed a Islamic State (IS) militant who had been plotting a terror attack on the day of the presidential election.

The attack was being planned in the city of Nizhny Novgorod, about 400 km east of Moscow, on March 18, the FSB said.

The militant, a neighboring country citizen, resisted arrest and was neutralized by a special unit of the FSB, it said in a statement.

Investigators found an improvised high-power explosive device, components for making more such devices, as well as firearms and ammunition, the statement said. Enditem
