Anti-semitic incidents level in Britain reaches all-time high: report

LONDON, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) -- As many as 1,382 cases of anti-Semitic attacks were recorded in Britain last year, making a record high, according to a report published Thursday.

The annual report of the Community Security Trust (CST) showed a 3-percent increase in 2017 and 34 percent growth of violent anti-Semitic assault cases.

Verbal abuse randomly directed at visibly Jewish people in public was the most common single type of incident logged by CST last year, accounting for a quarter of the annual tally, or 356 incidents. However, there was no obvious single cause behind the trend, the trust said.

"Hatred is rising and Jewish people are suffering as a result. This should concern everybody because it shows anger and division that threaten all of society," said David Delew, the chief executive of the CST.

The CST, British Jewish's largest watchdog on anti-Semitism, has recorded anti-Semitic incidents since 1984.

The previous record high was recorded in 2014. Enditem
