Mizutori appointed as UN special representative for disaster risk reduction

UNITED NATIONS, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Wednesday announced the appointment of Mami Mizutori of Japan as assistant secretary-general and his special representative for disaster risk reduction.

Mizutori will succeed Robert Glasser of Australia.

Mizutori brings to the position a combination of management and leadership expertise as well as more than 25 years of experience in international affairs and security, said Guterres' press service.

She is currently executive director of the Sainsbury Institute for the Study of Japanese Arts and Cultures at the University of East Anglia in Britain. Before that, she served for 27 years in the Japanese Foreign Ministry. Enditem
