MADRID, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- Spain's consumer prices rose by 0.5 percent in January when compared with the same month of 2017, according to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) published on Wednesday by Spain's Statistical Office (INE).

The figure is 0.6 percentage point lower than the annual rate of December, when the country's consumer prices rose by 1.1 percent.

According to the INE, the fall was due to lower prices of electricity.

Spain's consumer prices have been rising for 17 months year-on-year, and January's rate is the lowest since September 2016 when the annual inflation rate stood at 0.2 percent. Enditem
