BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- Brunei's Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah appointed new military commander on Wednesday afternoon, following the sudden reshuffle of his government a day ago.

The Sultan, who is also Brunei's Minister of Defense and Supreme Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), appointed Pahlawan Aminan as the 10th Commander of RBAF in a ceremony held at the royal palace, Istana Nurul Iman.

The monarch announced a major shake-up of the government on Tuesday in a televised speech, replacing six long-serving senior government ministers including Lim Jock Seng, Brunei's Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Mohammad Yasmin, Minister of Energy and Industry, and Abdul Rahman, the Second Finance Minister.

Education, development and communications ministers were also replaced.

Present at Wednesday's ceremony was Haji Awang Halbi, the newly appointed Second Minister of Defense, who was Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports before the reshuffle, and Mohd Tawih, the outgoing Commander of RBAF. Enditem
