BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.21 percent, at 3,480.83 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.06 percent lower at 11,159.68 points. The ChiNext Index, which tracks China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 2.66 percent to close at 1,735.06 points.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed flat Wednesday on negative note. Cautiousness has crept into D-Street as it awaits cues from the big bang event, the Union Budget, next day.

The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex closed at 35,965.02, 68.71 points or 0.19 percent down compared to its previous close at 36,033.73.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed lower on Wednesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going down 0.42 percent or 14.75 points to close at 3533.99.

A total of 2.30 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.93 billion Singapore dollars (about 1.48 billion U.S. dollars). Losers outnumbered gainers by 256 to 195.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 279.98 points, or 0.86 percent, to 32,887.27 points on Wednesday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 32,330.391 and 32,933.98. Turnover totaled 176.8 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 22.61 billion U.S. dollars).

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 1,110.36 points on Wednesday, down 0.2 points, or 0.02 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.

About 351.213 million shares worth 9.886 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (440.54 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange. Prices of 124 stocks went up, 168 stocks fell down, while 48 stocks remained unchanged.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 1.64 percent lower on Wednesday.
