Italian navy trains 30 Libyan navy members

TRIPOLI, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- Italian naval forces have completed a six-week training course for 30 Libyan naval personnel in Italy.

Libyan navy spokesman, Ayob Qassem, told Xinhua on Tuesday that 30 Libyan navy personnel had completed a six-week special marines training course at the Italian Special Forces headquarters in the city of Brindisi.

"The course included violent field exercises that focus on individual physical preparation and endurance, as well as swimming, break-ins, suspension, attachment, protection, defense and others," Qassem added.

Qassem said that the success rate was 100% for the trainees and that the group was at the level of its specialization in terms of endurance, absorption and high group spirit.

This is the second of three courses agreed between the Italian and Libyan naval forces in 2013, Qassem explained.

The Italian navy provides technical support to the Libyan navy on a regular basis, especially maintenance of marine and rescue boats used in the rescue operations of illegal immigrants sailing in the Mediterranean towards Italian shores. Enditem
