Vilnius airport to invest 60 mln euros on terminal reconstruction

Xinhua,January 31, 2018 Adjust font size:

VILNIUS, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- Vilnius International Airport will invest nearly 60 million euros (75 million U.S. dollars) to reconstruct its main terminal to serve growing number of passengers, the airport said in a statement on Tuesday.

The reconstruction will start next month and is scheduled to be completed in 2021.

The current terminal of Vilnius Airport was designed back in 2007 in order to handle around 3.5 million passengers a year.

However, currently this number has already exceeded 3.8 million. Therefore, the decision was taken to start the reconstruction as soon as possible, said airport director Olaf Martens.

In his words, the refurbished terminal will ensure faster and more comfortable services, and a bigger choice of goods and services as the shopping area will be expanded.

Last year, a 19-million-euro runway reconstruction was implemented at Vilnius Airport.

The Lithuanian airport network includes three airports -- one in the capital city Vilnius, the second in Kaunas, and the third at the sea resort Palanga. During 2017, they serviced 5.2 million passengers and 55,000 flights. Enditem
