RIO DE JANEIRO, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- Former Brazil international goalkeeper Julio Cesar has returned to his former club Flamengo on a three-month contract.
The 38-year-old told a press conference that he will represent the five-time Brazilian Serie A champions during the Rio de Janeiro state championship before retiring at the end of April.
"There's no chance of extending my contract beyond these three months," said Cesar, who parted ways with Portugal's Benfica last November.
"I'm not interested in stealing anybody's place. I'm here to help where possible, especially with the younger players."
Flamengo's current first-choice goalkeeper, Diego Alves, is currently recovering from a fractured collarbone.
Cesar played for Flamengo from 1998 to 2005 before moving to Europe, where he had spells with Chievo, Inter Milan, Queens Park Rangers and Benfica.
He played for Brazil at the 2010 and 2014 World Cups and was a part of the Inter Milan team that won the 2010 UEFA Champions League. Enditem
