German mobile app market worth 1.5 bln euros

Xinhua,January 30, 2018 Adjust font size:

BERLIN, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- German mobile app market has hit a record value of 1.5 billion euros (1.86 billion U.S. dollars) in 2017, according to a local professional digital association on Monday.

The latest number represented an increase of 4 percent year on year from a year ago.

Some 79 percent of the value came from digital content and service purchases within apps, 15 percent from mobile advertisements, and the rest from payments for app downloads, according to the association Bitkom.

About 1.8 billion app downloads were initiated in Germany on the biggest two platforms last year. Google's Android Play Store took up 65 percent and Apple's App Store 35 percent. They offered together 5.6 million apps for German users.

The most popular app categories were social media, messenger service, streaming media, and games.

"The app ecosystem expands itself significantly again with the wearable devices like smart watch and sport bracelet," said Bitkom president Achim Berg. Enditem
