French court drops ban on captive dolphin breeding

Xinhua,January 30, 2018 Adjust font size:

PARIS, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- The Council of State, France's highest administrative court, on Monday censured a ban on breeding dolphins in captivity, citing "an irregular consultation procedure."

On May 3, 2017, former ecology minister Segolene Royal announced a decree to end breeding dolphins in a bid to improve life condition of these animals on captivity.

The Marineland Park in Antibes, southeast France, the largest of its kind in Europe, had filed an appeal against the law, arguing it would harm the dolphins and affect their life expectancy.

"The Council of State granted this request and cancels the ban ... on the grounds that the order came after an irregular consultation procedure," it said in a statement. Enditem
