British stocks close flat on Monday

LONDON, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- British stocks closed flat on Monday, with the benchmark FTSE 100 Index up 0.08 points or 5.99 percent at 7,671.53 points.

Glencore, a multinational commodity trading and mining company, soared 3.26 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. Rio Tinto and Carnival rose by 2.08 percent and 1.62 percent respectively.

The British water company Severn Trent was the worst performer in the blue chips, with its shares losing 1.97 percent. Old Mutual, an international investment and banking group, dropped 1.62 percent. The British water company United Utilities Group dropped 1.58 percent. Enditem
