Spain's Bankia earns 816 mln euros in 2017

MADRID, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- Spain's fourth largest bank Bankia earned 816 million euros (1 billion U.S. dollars) in 2017, it reported on Monday.

The figure meant a 1.4 percent rise compared with 2016.

"2017 has been a very important year for Bankia," bank chairman Jose Ignacio Goirigolzarri said, adding: "We completed the restructuring plan, executed a merger and made further progress in the privatization process."

Bankia was created eight years ago as a result of a merger between Caja Madrid and other five smaller saving banks. It was seriously hit by the financial crisis and had to be bailed out after having reported big losses. Enditem
