Alcohol poisoning kills 4 in Libya

TRIPOLI, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- The Libyan Ministry of Health on Saturday reported 11 cases of alcohol poisoning, including four deaths.

"Tripoli Medical Center received 11 cases of alcoholic poisoning from Thursday to Saturday, resulting in four deaths and three cases of blindness. The remaining four cases are stable," the ministry said in a statement.

Consumption and trade of alcohol in Libya is prohibited and punished by law.

Deaths from alcohol poisoning have been reported in Libya in recent years. The most severe alcohol poisoning in Libya happened in March 2013, with some 1,000 cases registered, causing 87 deaths. Enditem
