Chinese engineers rotate two overpass sections in 70 mins

GUANGZHOU, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese engineers made another breakthrough in highway building Friday by simultaneously rotating two overpass sections into place in south China' s Guangdong Province.

The two enormous sectors of Yinghongte Bridge, each weighing 13,500 tonnes, were slowly swung to form right angles with the busy Beijing-Guangzhou high-speed railway track beneath.

Each section is 150 meters in length and 31.7 meters in width.

Experts took 70 minutes in the wee hours to connect the two structures with the rest of the two-way bridge.

Yinghongte Bridge serves as a significant project on the Shantou-Kunming Highway, which links the coastal province of Guangdong with the landlocked Yunnan Province in southwest China. Enditem
