LUSAKA, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Sunday.

-- All transporters of heavy and bulk goods will in the next 30 days be compelled to transport about 30 percent of their cargo by road, a senior Zambian official has said.

Minister of Transport and Communications Brian Mushimba said this follows the government's issuance of a statutory instrument on the quota system for bulk and that the decision was meant to prevent road damage caused by heavy cargo. (Zambia Daily Mail)

-- About 36 percent of more than 192,500 hectares of maize in central Zambia have been damaged beyond redemption due to the prolonged dry spell in some parts of the country, a preliminary report has shown. (Times of Zambia)
