KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- Two police personnel were killed and one dozen people were wounded in a bomb attack in Kandahar city, capital of southern Afghan province of Kandahar Friday night, local police said on Saturday.

Zia Durrani, provincial police spokesman, told Xinhua that "a suicide bomber detonated a car bomb when a police mobile patrol was passing by Aino Mina neighborhood in the largest southern Afghan city late Friday night, leaving the casualties."

Those among the injured were four policemen and eight civilians.

The Taliban insurgent group, which has been waging an insurgency of more than 16 years, has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Security situation has been improving in Kandahar province, the former stronghold of Taliban, in the last few months, as security forces have conducted search and cordon operations across the province. But the militants attack government interests in the province from time to time. Enditem
