Uganda's Cheptegei targets IAAF Diamond League

KAMPALA, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- Uganda's star runner Joshua Cheptegei targeted 5,000m race of the IAAF Diamond League, Uganda's top official said. on Friday.

The Doha stop of the Diamond League will kick off on May 4th.

Dominic Otuchet, President of the Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF), said, "He will focus a lot on the Diamond League races this year."

Cheptegei, the world 10,000m silver medalist last weekend, won the 2018 Cross Internacional de Italica in Seville, Spain. He will also make Uganda's team for the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games where he is expected to feature in both the 10,000m and 5,000m races.

"The race in Spain last week was a good test of speed for me and my target is to perform well in Australia during the Commonwealth Games and later take good form to the Doha Diamond League," Cheptegei said. Enditem
