SEOUL -- South Korean Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon ordered a probe into the cause of a deadly hospital fire on Friday that has killed 37 and injured dozens in the southeastern city of Miryang, local media said.

"There can be questions about how this amount of damage occurred in such a short period of time," Yonhap News Agency quoted Lee as saying. "We have to offer convincing explanations to the people in a detailed and transparent manner and determine who is responsible." (S. Korea-Fire)

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Treasury announced on Thursday that it has imposed sanctions on six individuals whom it alleged were linked to Taliban and the Afghan guerilla insurgent group Haqqani network.

The designation stopped the six men, who are either Pakistanis or Afghans living in Pakistan, from accessing the U.S. financial system. (US-Taliban-Sanctions)

ANKARA -- At least 14 people were killed and 130 others wounded during Turkey's military operation in Kurdish enclave in Afrin province of Syria, a Turkish minister said.

Among the dead, three of them were members of the Turkish army, 11 others were fighters from Turkey-backed Free Syria Army, the Minister of Health Ahmet Demircan told reporters on Friday. (Turkey-Syria-Afrin)

TOKYO -- Japan deployed its first F-35A stealth fighter on Friday at the Misawa Air Base in Aomori Prefecture in the country's northeast, according to the defense ministry here.

The deployment of the next-generation fighter marks the beginning of the formation of an Air Self-Defense Force squadron comprising 10 of the jets at the base from the next fiscal year starting in April, the defense ministry said. (Japan-Military-Fighter)
