JAKARTA, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- Timor-Leste President Fransisco Guterres dissolved the nation's parliament on Friday, calling for a new legislative election following political impasse in the country.

The parliament dissolution was made after frequent rejections of the government's development program and proposed budget plans to carry out the development, the president said.

"I believe that only the people who can help solving the new challenges we are facing now. From the bottom of my heart, I called on people to elect again in a new election so as to better improve our democracy," the Timor-Leste president said in the presidential palace.

Guterres government's budget plans were rejected by the parliament last December, following the other rejection in October.

To carry out the new legislative election, Guterres was set to have rounds of meetings with representatives of political parties, the state council and the state advisory board panel to discuss implementation of the new legislative election. Enditem
