Chinese procurator-general orders "crushing" fight against gang crime

BEIJING, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- China's Procurator-General Cao Jianming has ordered prosecutors across the country to strengthen the fight against gang crime into a "crushing tide."

The order came as China's central authorities on Wednesday announced a new campaign against organized and gang crime and its protectors.

Cao said prosecutors should actively participate in the campaign, be firm in rooting out social conditions that lead to gang crime, and help set up a system to prevent crime from occurring.

He also stressed the fight against acts of secession, infiltration, evil cults, and espionage to resolutely protect the state and political security.

Prosecutors were also asked to crack down on gun crime, theft, robbery, pyramid schemes and kidnapping. Enditem
