8 mln civil disputes settled by mediation

Xinhua,January 25, 2018 Adjust font size:

BEIJING, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- In 2017, a total of 8.76 million civil disputes were mediated by grassroots mediation organizations in China, according to Minister of Justice Zhang Jun.

These mediations had a 98 percent resolution rate, Zhang said at a two-day justice meeting which concluded Thursday.

Zhang urged justice departments and people's courts to provide better training of mediators to cope with the rising number of cases.

Mediation is a way of resolving disputes at the community level without recourse to litigation.

At the end of 2015, there were nearly 800,000 people's mediation committees with more than 3.9 million mediators. Enditem
