WASHINGTON, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President Donald Trump will welcome his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron for an official state visit, the White House said Wednesday.

Macron has been invited to the White House for his "first state visit" under the Trump administration, said White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders at a daily briefing.

"The date is still being finalized and we don't have that yet done," Sanders said.

Macron's visit is scheduled for the end of April, U.S. media cited senior Trump administration officials as saying Tuesday.

Trump and Macron met and phoned each other several times last year. The two struggled to soften their divergence over climate change and trade liberalization by seeking common ground on security and the fight against terrorism.

Trump visited Paris in July 2017, weeks after the U.S. withdrawal from the Paris climate accord. Enditem
