JALALABAD, Afghanistan, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- At least 11 people were injured as a suicide bombing rocked Jalalabad city, the capital of Afghanistan's eastern Nangarhar province on Wednesday, spokesman for provincial government Attaullah Khogiani said.

The blast was followed by gunshots and a gun battle continues, the official said.

Meanwhile, an official on condition of anonymity said the suicide car bombing occurred next to the office of non-governmental organization Save the Children and a gun battle is going.

Another official said following the bomb, six militants equipped with light arms and suicide vests entered the compound of Save the Children and the fighting is continuing.

Unofficial sources said eight people have been killed.

Security forces have cordoned off the area, not allowing journalists to get access to the site of the attack. Enditem
