HELSINKI, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- A record number of Finns chose to use the advance vote in the Finnish presidential election, media reports said on Tuesday.

The turnout of the advance polling for the first round of the election reached 36.1 percent as 1.527 million voters cast their ballots.

The figure will still grow slightly as advance ballots cast abroad have not been registered yet, national election director Arto Jaaskelainen told the media.

In the previous presidential election in 2012, 32.7 percent voted in advance vote for the first round.

The counting of the advance ballots will begin on the election day next Sunday. The result of the advance vote will be published immediately upon the closing of the voting on the election day. Enditem
