BEIJING -- Chinese stocks rallied Tuesday, with the key Shanghai index climbing for the sixth consecutive trading day to its highest level in more than two years.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index jumped 1.29 percent to 3,546.5 points, its highest level since December 31, 2015. The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.37 percent higher at 11,555.25 points.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed sharply higher Tuesday with the benchmark Nikkei stock index finishing above the 24,000 level for the first time in more than 26 years as investors' risk appetite returned after the U.S. government shutdown ended.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 307.82 points, or 1.29 percent, from Monday to close the day at 24,124.15, marking its highest closing level since Nov. 14, 1991.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 537.29 points, or 1.66 percent, to 32,930.70 points on Tuesday.
The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 32,554.23 and 32,930.70. Turnover totaled 197.98 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 25.33 billion U.S. dollars).

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended higher Tuesday.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) gained 34.49 points, or 1.38 percent, to settle at 2,536.60. Trading volume stood at 366.44 million shares worth 6.72 trillion won (6.27 billion U.S. dollars).

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 126.32 points on Tuesday, up 2.44 points or 1.97 percent against the previous trading session.
Over 79.631 million shares worth some 1.342 trillion Vietnamese dong (some 59.8 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Tuesday, a decrease of 0.04 percent in volume, but an increase of 3.5 percent in value against the previous trading session.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.54 percent higher on Tuesday.
The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index increased by 48.40 points to 8,999.02. The all-share index went up by 41.60 points, or 0.80 percent, to 5,214.61.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) up 0.63 percent or 22.65 points to close at 3,592.08.
A total of 2.55 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.78 billion Singapore dollars (about 1.35 billion U.S. dollars). Gainers outnumbered losers by 325 to 182.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Tuesday.
The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,838.04 up 4.89 points or 0.27 percent, and the Emas was at 13,312.65 up 72.89 points or 0.55 percent.
